Repellent Chemicals

Repellent chemicals offer great protection from termites since they are easily detected and strongly avoided by them. Unfortunately however, if there’s a gap in the chemical, either due to being unable to access all areas, or if a treated area is later compromised, white ants can recognise the gaps and gain access.

Bifenthrin is the regularly used chemical repellent, with a residual life span of up to five years.

Non-Repelling Chemicals

The chemicals aren’t detected by termites, and therefore the termites do not stay away from contact with the chemical. Once exposed, the termites are killed, and may transfer the chemical on to other colony members, thus resulting in a compounding result.

Because termites cannot tell apart treated locations to non-treated areas, the possibility of termite ingress via non-treated gaps is much lower.

The often common non-repellent chemical is Fipronil, which has a residual life of as much as eight years.
